A review of Squidoo, a community of one-page websites where anyone can set up a page for free and perhaps make income promoting articles, products, ebay auctions, etc.
Squidoo is a unique website community. If a person or group wants to make a fast, easy one-page site to lead readers to blogs, favorite links, RSS feeds, favorite Flickr photos, Google maps, eBay auctions, Amazon books or music (and get a cut of the profits), a Squidoo "Lens" (as they call the pages) can be up and running in about a half hour.
On Squidoo it is Fast and Easy to Set Up a Web Page
In about a half hour (the site says 5 minutes to set up, but that would be a bare bones site), following easy prompts, one can have a simple site up and running.
Squidoo places Google advertising, which matches site content, without any work to the webmaster.
On the "dashboard" feature, one can check stats of site visits, income, the last date the lens was updated and rating in the Squidoo community.
There is no cost at all to set up a web page on Squidoo.
Everyone is an Expert on Something and Can Use a Squidoo Lens
Whatever one's interest, a lens may be made. If a person is the #1 fan of a certain movie star, for instance, one can set up a site all about that person.
If one is a writer, having a Squidoo page is a good way to send traffic to articles, blogs or other web pages.
A Squidoo website may be used to share knowledge, gain credibility as an expert in an area, increase web traffic to other places, or earn money (royalties) for one's self, one's organization, or a favorite charity.
Charities May Earn Money with a Squidoo Free Webpage
With a Squidoo site, one may set up income to go to themselves, a charity of choice, or a percentage to each. The website maker decides how much income is allocated to each.
Charities may also promote other fundraisers, make money selling Amazon products, sell their own items, and more.
Squidoo is a good place to get free exposure and promotion for a non-profit group.
Squidoo suggests "you could invite all 45,000 of your most important donors to build sites on their favorite topics. The invitation would set the default royalty cash flow to "Donate my royalties to JDRF." If each lens generated as little as $2 a day..." One can see this could add up to a lot of money.
Making Money on Squidoo
One site does not make for an instant milliionaire. According to Squidoo, "Think of the royalty as a bonus--and don't quit your dayjob yet! A single lens might not earn a lot, but if you imagine hundreds of lenses working to your favor, or fundraising for a charity, it can really start to add up." So, the idea is that one can make several pages on different subjects, or on the same subject with different "slants."
Safety On Squidoo
Lenses can be rated by the website maker as G, R or X-rated.
There are "Safe Search" settings for checking out other Squidoo pages.
Non-members of Squidoo automatically default to safe search, which shows only G-rated lenses.
