Making extra money for the holidays isn't always easy, but with these online and offline strategies, you can make extra cash without the stress.

Christmas is right around the corner, and times are tight. Many people could use a little extra spending cash for the holidays. Here are some easy do's and don'ts to help you earn some extra money to help with holiday expenses.

Earning Extra Money: Online Opportunities

Don't fall for hyped-up Internet "business opportunities." There are a million and one of these online, all promising quick success with very little work. In reality, these are almost always "opportunities" to lose your initial investment as well as your valuable time. Like it or not, money is created through work. Look for a legitimate way to work for fair pay rather than an "opportunity" scheme.

Do consider writing for websites like Suite101. Watch out, though - many companies don't offer the same level of quality Suite101 does. No matter how professional or selective the site may seem, you could end up writing for pennies, or feeding your content to spam websites. This is why Suite101 remains the leader in its field.

Offline Activities

Do think about offline activities, too. There are almost always ways to drum up a little extra cash out there in the "real world." Does anybody need the garage cleaned, leaves raked, or snow shoveled? These and similar ideas may be a good way to help out a neighbor and increase your holiday budget in the process.

Don't allow yourself to become discouraged or depressed over a tight holiday budget. You're not alone - millions of Americans are feeling the crunch. Besides, when you are discouraged or depressed, your ability to focus on improving the situation is limited. Even if you have to cut back a bit this year, where there's a will, there's a way.

Do keep track of which methods work for you, so that you can continue using them throughout the year. Planning ahead is an excellent way to ensure that next year's holidays are as stress-free as possible. Plus, who couldn't use some extra cash all through the year? If you find something that works, stick with it.

The Real Meaning of the Holidays

Remember that at the end of the day, money isn't what the holidays are all about. Making some extra cash to help with expenses is great, but the real value of the holiday season is found in spending time with friends and family. Even if you don't have much to give in the material sense, you can always give the gift of simply being there, and that's what really counts.
