As more periodicals sign up for inclusion in Kindle sales, a larger version of the Kindle makes it easier to read pages with graphics and pictures.

Amazon will soon release a larger version of the Amazon Kindle that will make it easier to read newspapers and textbooks. The Kindle DX has a 9.7 inch screen and can rotate the picture to make it easier to read graphs and to see landscape pictures. This more than doubles the screen size of the first two versions of the Kindle.

Digital Book Reader

The Amazon Kindle is a digital book reader that contains a small modem. This allows the owner to subscribe to newspapers, magazines and blogs and to get automatic downloads of those periodicals. Amazon has a list of more than 270,000 books and a lengthy list of newspapers and national magazines that can be downloaded with the Kindle. Amazon also maintains an ever-growing list of more than 1,500 blogs that can subscribed to and read with the Kindle.

Digital Textbooks

Many analysts expect the Kindle DX to revolutionize the way that college students buy and carry textbooks. The high storage capacity of the Kindle DX allows up to 3,500 books and other documents to be stored in the hand-held device. As an electronic book reader, the Kindle can be used to store a number of large textbooks. The larger screen means easier reading of tables and charts, giving the Kindle DX the potential to save students time and money when buy-buying season rolls around.

Selling books that are downloaded directly through the Kindle is less expensive for book publishers, translating into a lower-cost book for readers. Since the first version of the Amazon Kindle was released, the price of electronic book downloads for new releases has held steady at $9.99. With college textbook costs rising each year, the potential savings for each student is enormous.

While many textbooks are not yet available for Download on the Kindle, Amazon has a request link on many book listings that allows customers to send a request to a book publisher for an electronic book version.

Newspaper Reader

All versions of the Kindle are equipped for digital downloads of newspaper subscriptions. The Kindle DX makes it easier to read a newspaper the same way they are read in their paper version. With a larger screen size, readers can scan the headlines of their downloaded newspaper and choose the headlines that interest them instead of scrolling through the stories one at a time.

Electronic books downloaded onto a digital book reader make it possible to carry and transport far more periodicals than with paper versions. With the Kindle DX, anyone can carry hundreds of large, technical books on the book reader and to keep them in a device that weighs just under 19 ounces.
