Newsletter Publishing Tips

Promote Business by Writing Online Content for Clients

Dec 23, 2008 Beverly Lee

Writing and publishing a newsletter is a great way to promote your online business or keep your customers up to date on company or personal changes.

The best way to make any newsletter stand out from the thousands online is to fill it with unique original information readers want to read on a regular basis. The following tips will guide the new publisher to composing a business newsletter with great appeal and attract many subscribers.

Know the Audience

This sounds simple enough, you must know the targeted readers. What are their demographics. Are they male, female, young, old, middle age, middle income, rich, getting by, just starting out, looking for business opportunities, looking for work at home jobs, stay at home moms, business women or men. Are the readers interested in franchise opportunities, home business ideas. Learn to select the type of business articles that reflect the readers interest.

Establish a Publishing Schedule

Professionals publish on a regular schedule. Make that a key goal! A regular publishing schedule will also assist the publisher when accepting article submissions. The contributors will know when to submit articles for publication. And this will also assist in scheduling newsletter ads around publishing dates. For example, the newsletters publishing date is the 15th of each month. Advertisers and writers should be aware they must submit before the scheduled publishing date to be included in the next issue.

Follow Plans

If issues are planned around the 15th of every month stick to it. Don't publish erratically. Many readers will get confused or forget they subscribed to the newsletter because of the irregular publishing schedule.

Proofread

Every publisher should proofread the newsletter before it is sent to readers. Take the time to correct any obvious spelling or grammar errors. This will improve the quality of the publication. Run the spell check program and then go over the text line by line looking for common errors the program may ignore. For example, substituting two for too, or their for they're.

Experiment With Style

Change format. Add different article styles. Ask readers to send in their questions or opinions. Publish surveys. Add trivia bits, breaking news, quotes, contest, even jokes. Format changes will keep readers interested while improving writing skills.

Research

Research the articles online. Add interesting links to more relevant information. Links to another free resource, software, interesting downloads, are always good ideas.

Invite New Writers

Writing a newsletter is overwhelming to most new publishers. Recruit online writers. Ask the readers to contribute to the newsletter. Offer a resource box in the newsletter to all contributors. This will prompt queries from many writers. And of course there are plenty of article directories online with a wide selection of articles to add to the newsletter.

In conclusion, spend time studying popular business newsletter style or formats for ideas. And don't be afraid to ask successful newsletter publishers for advice. Most are glad to share their experience with new online publishers.
