RentACoder is a freelance bidding site that regularly has new freelance writing jobs as well as Web design and programming projects.

RentACoder is a freelance bidding site that is primarily used for freelance Web design jobs and for programming projects.

But, RentACoder also have several Web writing categories to allow clients to find freelance writers for Web content, ebooks and other writing projects.

Bidding on Freelance Jobs

For service providers, there is no monthly fee. Unlike most freelance bidding sites, providers don't have to choose a membership type, pass any tests or pay for membership. Accounts are free and a profile space is provided for a resume and photo.

Many providers use this space to detail their writing, Web design or programming skills. Web designers can post screen shots of their work or links to sites they have designed. Freelance writers can post links to Web content they have written or list sites they have written for.

There is no set number of bids allowed to service providers. Any member can bid on as many projects as they wish and as often as they wish. The bids are made along with a proposal made by the bidder. The proposal details what the provider can do for the client, what their experience is and why they are the best person for the project. There is also an option to attach a zip file with any other information. Some RentACoder writers choose to attach writing samples.

Though there is no membership fee, RentACoder does take a higher commission fee than any of the other freelancing sites. There is a flat 15 percent fee taken from each completed project.

RentACoder Escrow

All RentACoder projects use the site's escrow system. A client must place the project amount in escrow before the provider can start the project. The money is kept in escrow by RentACoder and is released once the project is over and the client authorizes the site to release the funds.

If there is a dispute between the client and the provider, a RentACoder official will determine who is at fault and which party will receive the escrowed money. On some cases, the official will split the money between the two parties.

Payment From RentACoder

Once money has been released to a service provider, it will accrue in the provider's account until the cutoff date for payments. These dates are the 1st and 15th of each month, and it often takes a couple of days for payments to be processed.

The site can send a check, but most providers choose to receive their money directly through PayPal. The PayPal option does allow the service provider to get the payment as soon as possible, but the site's payments are subject to PayPal fees.
